20 Years Ago Kurt Cobain Died And My Childhood Officially Ended

Yep, I feel old.  Kurt Cobain died 20 years ago today.  Here’s an interesting story written in the National Post today about the event:

“Kurt Cobain, who died 20 years ago today, wasn’t a hero, martyr or vampire. He was himself”

I remember the day.  I was in my early 20’s and just a few months in on my first office job.  Before that gig I was footloose and fancy free backpacking through Europe.  I returned from my trip to find that I was really very broke and my fancy new Theatre Arts diploma wasn’t going to feed my right away.  I needed a ‘real’ job.  Damn, being an adult really sucks.

I was never particularly a Nirvana fan, however, ‘grunge’ music was the background music of my life during the early 1990’s.  I guess you could say the soundtrack of my college years.  I remember one of my first college dorm parties and hearing the song”Smells Like Teen Spirit” being played over and over again.  It is just interesting to note that when he died, my carefree days of being a student officially died  as well.  I was stuck being an adult.  I had to grow up.  Maybe Kurt didn’t want to grow up either…
